I have singularly failed to attend any Fr. Z ‘blognic’, whether in New York or in London, but I was glad my friend (and this blog’s editor emeritus) Tim Conroy let me know the world’s most famous blogging priest was in town. Over lunch I managed to introduce the Reverend Father to Scotland’s national soft-drink Irn-Bru (once advertised as “Made in Scotland. From Girders.”). But of course Fr. Z is fond of his coffee as well. You can just about make out a Cusack in tweed and tie behind the can of sweet Caledonian ambrosia.
Do they sell that Irn Bru drink in New York? I’ve never seen it. I’m curious, what does it taste like? and does it contain 100% of the daily recommended Iron?
Well, that settles it. After hearing about this Scotch specialty from several discrete sources over the past few weeks, I will certainly try it on my upcoming trip to London. Even though I’m told that it’s the kind of thing that makes dentists wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night, my curiosity has been piqued!
Is there any other “must try” food or beverage that is specific to London that you would recommend to a foreign visitor?
P.S.- I think your blog is both informative and charming. I really enjoy it! Thank you!
In fact, you can get Irn Bru in NYC at A Salt and Battery, an excellent fish and chips shop on Greenwich Ave. between 12th and 13th Streets…
