Scotland in Snowfall

Scotland has been enveloped in snowfall, and the BBC has put a photo gallery up of reader-submitted images of the recent precipitation. The In Pictures feature of BBC News Online’s Scottish section has for years been one of my favourite parts of the website, offering a new series of photographs every week varying from the startling to the quotidian. Above is Michael Rennie’s view of a rather peaceful-looking Loch Ness.

This pheasant was shot (which is to say photographed) at Duddingston Loch by Kevin Kirk. I love Duddingston, one of Edinburgh’s myriad hidden gems, neatly tucked in the folds of Holyrood Park.

My own alma mater, St Andrews University, awards honorary degrees on St Andrew’s Day. Elliot Reid of Aberdeen took this shot of St Salvator’s Quadrangle on the festal evening.

Jeff Hattie managed this shot of his hill-walking companions at Beinn an Dothaidh in Argyll.
