And the natives rejoiced…

One can find such amazingly random things on Youtube. Here we have a clip (3:09) of the native Fifers of Bell Baxter High School, of which the President of the St Andrews University Catholic Society is a distinguished alumnus, dancing my favorite reel (the name of which eternally escapes me).

And then there’s this clip (2:07) of Peter Sellers (or is it the Maximum Leader?) reciting “It’s Been A Hard Day’s Night” in the manner of Olivier:

Thanks, Andrew, for the wonderful clip of the great Peter Sellers doing the Beatles ala Olivier. What a brilliant actor/comedian he was!

One of the all-time great political satires, I think, is Hal Ashby’s “Being There” with Sellers as Chance the Gardener. Besides Seller’s subtle performance, I remember being struck by the prescience of the tale as I watched it again during the early days of George W. Bush’s first term as President.

Thanks for that one of Peter Sellers, one forgets how good he was.

Thanks for the Peter Sellers clip. I haven’t watched anything of his in a while, and that was brilliant.

I got dragged into a reel very much like the one you’ve posted (maybe that one, I dunno) by some Scottish country dancers when they found out I was an Irish dancer, and it was much fun. Even the social Irish dances tend to have a lot more figures than that, so that one was delightfully simple to pick up, as long as you can remember the order of things!

It must be Sellers. I am not nearly that talented. Indeed, I am a talentless hack most of the time.
