If you’re in the market for a little place in Paris, centrally located, Knight Frank has got just the thing for you. Admittedly, it’s only a wing of a larger hôtel particulier on the Rue Vide-Gousset, but it has an enviable view over the Place des Victoires. Mind you, I’ve always been of two minds about the Place des Victoires. I’m not particularly a fan of Louis XIV, whose somewhat silly equestrian statue presides foppishly over the centre of the circus: I’ve always blamed him for the French Revolution, failing to heed Margaret Mary Alacoque’s warnings and all that. But the statue’s only been there since 1828, so perhaps it can be replaced with something better in a suitably classical style.
Five storeys, seventeenth century, “restored to its original elegance” (meaning it’s been a bit done-up unfortunately — I prefer my places structurally sound but with a crumbling appearance) “with entry through a private courtyard into a world of total seclusion”. Three reception rooms, three terraces (including the one pictured up top), nine bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a place to park, and a lift (how almost vulgar!).
Bet it’d be good for parties though.
I can only imagine the expense! Studios centrally located in Paris run about $200,000 (us). And that will get you little more than 80 or 100 square feet!
Luckily your father’s legal counsel successfully extorted all the necessary funds to pay for a decent pad in Paris.
Magnifique! Got a million euros to spare?
Well more than one million euros, I am sure.
