Over at Sky News, we read the following from blogger Alistair Bruce:
Or… perhaps because it was November 30… the Feast of Saint Andrew… Scotland’s national day? It strikes me, however, that Google UK’s little image of Edinburgh Castle is as astonishingly poor one. They should’ve commissioned Iain McIntosh, who designed the Edinburgh Castle logo of the Edinburgh Evening News (at right). Mr. McIntosh also does the splendid illustrations for the 44 Scotland Street series, not to mention the Professor von Igelfeld Entertainments, depicting the trials and tribulations of poor Professor Dr Moritz-Maria von Igelfeld of the Institute of Romance Philology at Regensburg.
According to Google it was for St. Andrew’s Day.

I agree Bruce’s assertions are daft, but what’s wrong with Google’s image?
It appears to show the north side of the castle.

Google’s image is so boring! It fails to capture the majesty of the crag.
Also, as it was St. Andrew’s Day, I think an image of the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral might be more appropriate.
Hear, hear!
Phooey. You funny St Andrews folks.
Why not a photo of Candida Casa or something Just As South? ;-p
Double phooey! Save Candida Casa for St. Ninian’s Day.
A St Andrew’s Cross? On Edinburgh Castle? By God, the Barbarians really are at the gates. Luckily, I suspect it is nothing more than an artist’s embellishment.
Hurrah! Someone knows who I’m talking about…
I’m planning on going back to Wigtownshire (where I’m from in June). I intend to visit Glenluce Abbey (Cistercian – Vale Lucis) as well as some other places… :D
